I really enjoy getting lost in books. It feels like I've lived so many more lives than just my own!

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata

“I am one of those cogs, going round and round. I have become a functioning part of the world, rotating in the time of day called morning.”

We follow the life of Keiko Furukura who has been working at Smile Mart for the past 18 years. We see how the repetitive nature of the convenience store has become the place she feels most at home. I found Convenience Store Women to be a thought provoking read. I really enjoyed seeing how Keiko lived for the mundane.

Hunger by Choi Jin-young

“What does any of it matter? Whether I'm here or not is a matter of feeling, and I'm dead. What does a dead man know about feeling, anyway? Yet I can feel. I am feeling you.”

Strange and compelling. To the characters this is a love story but I believe that it’s a tale of desperation and obsession. I found myself understanding the characters but also questioning almost everything they did. I couldn’t put it down!

Servant Of Earth by Sarah Hawley

“If you give too much of yourself down here, you risk losing everything. Because no one will ever return that loyalty. You'll give and give and end up hollow... or dead. Remember that.”

I’m in love with this story! The plot was enticing, filled with political intrigue, magic and of course a bit of forbidden romance. The world and characters are written really well and it was easy to follow along, especially for a high fantasy novel.

When The Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

“I envy the dragons, Kaan. They worship death so beautifully. We just . . . lose. Left with nothing but ghosts and memories that feel like wounds.”

Sarah A. Parker has such a way with words, bringing the world and characters to life. The world is full of fae, dragons, magic and plot twists. Our main character Raeve is a headstrong assassin filled with secrets that even she doesn’t know about. We get to watch them unfold as she is taken off her vigilante course by Kaan Vaegor. Kaan is many things horrible, cruel, king, and maybe even the answer to the secrets Raeve doesn’t want to know. I was absolutely enthralled with When the Moon Hatched. I could not get enough!!!
